7 Space Saving Tips

Organizing a garage and keeping it clutter-free is always a challenge. in my experience, garage organization in Sarasota and Sarasota county (or in most of the Southeast United States) pose additional challenges not only do you have things to store like hurricane shutters, keeping your tools rust free, and protecting

Through trial and error, and over the years I have learned many space saving tips 4 a garage, as well as tips to save tools metal objects oh, and keep your garage bearable during the summer. Some of these garage organizer tips go a little far, but I promised a comprehensive list of garage organization Sarasota residents can reference.

Garage cabinet installers?

The number one tip I have, is to get your junk off of the garage floor. This means he want to install garage cabinets.

One question I get asked is do I need to hire garage cabinet installers near me? What he meant was do I have to hire a garage cabinets installer? Well if you are physically able to do it, like you have good balance and the proper safety gear, as well as the time, should disable to do it in a day or two. The main thing with garage cabinets is it have to be supported on cement block walls. This means you have to get a cement anchor that can hold a weight as well as a drill that can go through cinder blocks.

How much does it cost to install garage cabinets? On the other hand, if you want your garage cabinets installed you can usually do them for a relatively reasonable price. The one tip I really recommend it’s this… when you are redoing your kitchen do your garage at the same time. What you do is take out your old cabinets carefully, and use them as garage cabinets. Now, all you pay is for installation oh, and you have a nice set garage cabinets to keep that junk off of the floor.

My hurricane shutters take up so much space in my garage!

In Sarasota most of us have our hurricane shutters stored somewhere, and I get in the way because they are used only about once every five years. Many of you, especially snowbirds may not know how to make your hurricane shutters take up less space in your garage.

It is quite simple, there are brackets which can be installed in the corner of your garage which hold the hurricane shutters upright and tied together in a nice neat stack.

What you do is Mark each set of shutters for each window with masking tape and label them. This way when a hurricane is coming you don’t have to fuss around with sorting hurricane shutters. you don’t have to pay to get the specialized bracket to hold your hurricane shutters up, but you can simply take eye hooks with rope or cable tightly around them to hold the shutters.

Put up Ikea shelving… A cheaper solution the cabinets

Although hanging garage cabinets is not very expensive, slightly cheaper solution would be assembling shelving on the sides and back of your garage. From my house oh, I went to IKEA got 20 feet worth of shelving. The shelves also go to about 6 feet high. They hold everything tools, pots pans, everything. I think we paid a hundred eighty bucks for this, plus my labor, once again. Of course they sell seashells just about anywhere oh, I just found the Ikea shelves for priced Right, attractive, and easier to install than most.

Protect your tools and other metal possessions from rust.

Years ago when I came here from Michigan to Sarasota, I got my tools put them in my toolbox and left in there for a year. What could go wrong I thought? Up north everything was fine.

Shortly after my first Florida summer, I opened up tool boxes and drawers and found the beginning of rusty hatchets, screwdrivers, power tools, you name itWell, down south here in Southwest Florida we have heat and humidity. Humidity wreaks havoc on everything and the Sarasota area.

I always wondered why my father-in-law had so many airtight plastic boxes. Well now I know the reason, humidity. So my answer to keeping garage tools and metal from rusting his to get airtight boxes for tools specially. Get many small one so you can divide up each type of tool. This will make it so much easier to find a tools later. You don’t want to Rusty Christmas tree, put it in a sealed box and label it s works for anything metal and your garage.

Extend the life of your hot water heater.

Another thing I had no idea about was not putting a hot water heater directly on the floor. Your garage floor has water underneath it. This water will evaporate words oh, and if you do not have any place where to go I hear you are, it will stay on your hot water heater. All you need to do is get your hot water heater about inch and a half to 2-inches off of the ground, to allow for airflow. There are many ways to do this oh, but all I did was put a few paver blocks underneath my hot water heater. Wow, my hot water heater should last even more years!

Increase the life of your air conditioner

By now, most of you are sane how can a garage affect your air conditioner? Well, most of us have a portion of our air conditioner inside of our hot garage. What does a hot garage do to a metal air conditioner? You guessed it Ruskin happen.

If your air conditioner is not properly insulated, meaning it has no air leaks, and the metal has insufficient insulation, you will have problems.

When hot air touches cold air leaking from your air conditioner, water farms. Water stays on the air conditioner causes of crossed at the seams. It also drops on anything underneath it like a freezer, metal tools, your floor where you can slip or get mold.  Not only this, but you are losing precious cold air and energy.

Make sure there is adequate insulation inside or outside of the unit itself. Also seal any air leaks. This may not be the best way to do it, but I use plumber’s putty because you can remove it when you need your unit serviced.

Air leaks almost always occur at the seams and the screw holes. Anyway, I could write tons of information on air ceiling and saving money, but that will be in another post.  I hope this advice helps you save money, and extend the light everything in your garage. Anybody has any other advice I would really appreciate it if you could leave it in the comments section.

Can a garage floor painter help?

Although I will have another post on garage floor painting, I have noticed, if done properly, garage floor coatings can help keep out moisture. It will not waterproof your garage floor, but it seems that the rusting of metal has decreased and most garages with the proper garage floor covering.garage floor painting is kind of a pain in the butt for most homeowners, because you have to take everything out paint it, hope it doesn’t rain on everything you moved out of your garage, move it all back in without ruin the surface that you just quoted. Although if I had it to do all over again, I would just hire somebody to coat my garage floor. I paid the painting contractor five or six hundred dollars, and I wouldn’t have wasted two days and wear tear on my body.
